New Public Housing Resources and Training Available

New resources and training are available on the HUD Exchange to support PHAs and their partners in developing and administering their public housing and voucher programs. Recent additions include the Public Housing Resident Organizing and Participation Toolkit in English and Spanish, NSPIRE Online Training, and a guidebook and webinar on strategies for assisting people experiencing homelessness. Following up on the recent requirement that HUD-subsidized properties provide 30 days’ notice with information about emergency rental assistance before evicting tenants for nonpayment of rent, HUD has provided further information for multifamily and public housing programs, as well as sample language for informing tenants of their rental assistance options. HUD Issues Rule Protecting Tenants Facing Evictions for Nonpayment of Rent in HUD-Assisted Properties

An interim final rule published in the Federal Register on October 4 prohibits the eviction of tenants for nonpayment of rent from HUD-subsidized properties and certain PBRA properties without providing a 30-day notice that includes information about available federal emergency rental assistance. HUD Announces Cross-Agency Efforts to Increase Affordable Housing Supply

This month’s actions mark a renewed focus on supporting construction and development of affordable housing units across the country. According to HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge, the actions “will expand access to critical capital for state Housing Finance Agencies, empower local communities to build more affordable housing using the historic investments contained in the American Rescue Plan, and advance equitable housing policies such as inclusionary zoning practices.” Read article
