HUD Requests Information on Direct Rental Assistance Model
HUD seeks public input on the direct rental assistance concept of providing a rental housing subsidy directly to the renter, rather than the property owner. Specifically, HUD would like comments on advantages and disadvantages, recommended policies and procedures for ensuring payments go toward housing, ensuring such assistance is not treated as income for tax and other purposes, calculation of subsidies, housing quality standards, and more. HUD Extends 2024 Shortfall Budget Deadlines for Recipients of 2022/2023 Grants
Notice PIH 2024-23 changes the shortfall budget submission deadline for PHAs that received 2022 or 2023 public housing shortfall grants and had 2024 shortfall budget due dates of January 1, April 1, or July 1, 2024. Read more
PD&R Publishes New Issue of Cityscape
The theme of the new issue of Cityscape is “Fifty Years of Tenant-Based Rental Assistance.” Article topics include source of income discrimination and the laws preventing it, portability analysis, the evolution of special voucher programs for people with disabilities, project-based vouchers, and HCV flexibility strategies learned from the COVID-19 pandemic. HUD Recognizes Philanthropic Organizations
The six winners of the 2024 HUD Secretary’s Award for Public-Philanthropic Partnerships are Lincoln Community Foundation, Rochester Area Community Foundation, Seattle Foundation, The Dayton Foundation, John T. Gorman Foundation, and Yampa Valley Community Foundation. The award honors outstanding public-philanthropic partnerships that have led to measurable benefits in economic employment, health, safety, education, disaster resilience, inclusivity and cultural opportunities, and housing access for low- and moderate-income families.
