HUD awards $472 million in CARES Act funding to support public housing authorities
On Monday, August 10, HUD announced the latest round of emergency relief funding for public housing authorities. These funds are available by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and can be used to help the Housing Choice Voucher program. Read more
Los Angeles County prepares to hand out $100 million in rent relief
The program will use money from COVID-19 relief funds to pay rent for low-income tenants who are experiencing hardships as a result of the health and economic crisis. The Los Angeles County Development Authority hopes the program will help 8,000 to 9,000 households. Read more
Shreveport is the first city in Louisiana to get a HUD EnVision Center
The hub allows Shreveport Housing Authority residents access to self-sufficiency services, as well as providing resources for social services and healthcare information. The site is temporarily located at the Shreveport Housing Authority’s main office until they move into their permanent location at a later date. Read more
HUD has designated La Familia Counseling Center in Sacramento, CA as an EnVision Center
Like the Shreveport EnVision Center, the Sacramento location will provide self-sufficiency services to residents. The site will also provide education, health and wellness, connections with federal agencies, and business development resources. Read more
More affordable housing coming to Boise, ID
Saint Alphonsus Health System and LEAP Housing Solutions plan to upcycle steel cargo containers into 14 new homes for low-income families. The homes will be open to households earning 80% or less than area median income starting in January 2021. Read more
