Secretary Ben Carson announces HUD’s new Housing Choice Voucher Mobility Demonstration

On Tuesday, July 21, HUD Secretary Ben Carson announced the Housing Choice Voucher Mobility Demonstration. The demonstration allows participating PHAs to implement housing mobility programs by offering mobility-related services to increase the number of voucher families with children living in opportunity areas. PHAs will also be able to adopt administrative policies that further enable housing mobility, increase landlord participation, and reduce barriers for families to move across PHA jurisdictions through portability. Read more

New York City Housing Authority resident starts her own business and credits NYCHA's program with helping her

Sandra Mathis participated in NYCHA's Resident Economic Empowerment and Sustainability (REES) program where she learned how to start a business from scratch. After completing the 13-week program, Mathis launched her online cupcake company and is now "busier than ever." Read more

 

New affordable housing apartment complex coming to Idaho Falls, ID

The apartment complex will consist of 72 units in total with each residential building housing 18 units. 90% of the 18 units will be slated as affordable housing with a few market-rate units. As of today, the complex is still in the early phases. Read more

 

New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announces plans for a 291-unit affordable housing project in Brooklyn

The development not only provides housing for families and individuals but 146 units—half of the apartments—will house youth aging out of foster care, formerly incarcerated individuals, and formerly homeless young adults. A facility center called the HUB will provide community resources such as childcare services, health screening center, small business services incubator and workforce training, violence prevention and mediation center, and more.
