FHEO introduces fair housing assessment tool
On Friday HUD announced the publication of a draft template for the assessment of fair housing (AFH) in an email to the Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) mailing list. FHEO is requesting comments on the draft version of the tool for the next 60 days. There will be an additional 30-day comment period later in the process.
Publication of the AFH tool follows last year’s proposed rule on affirmatively furthering fair housing (AFFH). The assessment tool is a document that HUD grantees would use to analyze barriers to fair housing choice and set goals to address them. It is a proposed replacement for the current analysis of impediments to fair housing choice (AI).
The tool was posted to HUD’s webpage for the proposed AFFH rule. In addition to the new tool, the page also features a Federal Register notice announcing the comment period and links to data tables and maps provided by HUD for use with the template. The closing date for comments on the proposed assessment tool is November 25, 2014.
