HUD announces major restructuring of field offices
In a press release this afternoon, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that it will be closing 16 of its 80 field offices this year. The offices to be closed are located in Camden, New Jersey; Syracuse, New York; Orlando and Tampa, Florida; Springfield, Illinois; Cincinnati, Ohio; Flint and Grand Rapids, Michigan; Shreveport, Louisiana; Dallas and Lubbock, Texas; Tucson, Arizona; Fresno, Sacramento, and San Diego, California; and Spokane, Washington.
"By closing these offices and undertaking this restructuring," states the press release, "HUD is striving to balance budget reductions and increasing workloads while continuing to focus on giving the agency’s staff the tools necessary to provide high-quality service from the remaining office locations."
In addition to closing 16 field offices, HUD plans to restructure its Office of Multifamily Housing Programs over the next two and a half years. A major part of the restructuring will involve consolidating multifamily field employees, who currently work in 50 offices around the country, into 10 offices.
