Public Comment Period for AFFH Proposed Rule Ends April 24

The deadline to submit comments on the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing proposed rule is Monday, April 24 (as the public comment period was extended by two weeks). Read article

 

HUD Starts Process to Strengthen Standards for Conditions in HUD Assisted and Insured Housing

At the end of March, HUD published the proposed scoring notice for the new NSPIRE inspections model. The update and overhaul of HUD’s physical inspection standards incorporates feedback from residents, owners, and PHAs to prioritize health, safety, and functional defects, among other improvements. PIH Issues Notice on Remedies for Poor Performing Owners in HCV/PBV 

Notice PIH 2023-06 reminds PHAs of available solutions when property owners don’t comply with program requirements, particularly unit safety, as well as the potential steps HUD may take when a PHA hasn’t ensured owner compliance. The notice includes potential discretionary policies PHAs can adopt to help in these situations. Read notice

 

HUD Requests Registrations of Interest for VASH Vouchers

Notice PIH 2023-09 announces the availability of $94.4 million in HUD-VASH funding, which includes funds left over from 2022’s awards as well as funds appropriated in the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 The deadline for submitting a Registration of Interest is May 10, 2023. Office of PD&R Begins Publishing Policy & Practice

Policy & Practice, a new, online-only periodical from HUD’s Office of Policy Development and Research, aims to provide innovative solutions for local policymakers and practitioners to address today’s housing and community development challenges. New LGBTQIA+ Fair Housing Toolkit on HUD Exchange

HUD’s new LGBTQIA+ Fair Housing toolkit seeks to educate housing providers, tenants, applicants, and others involved in housing on protections that advance housing equity. The toolkit includes an overview of relevant laws, regulations, and executive orders; a summary of the Equal Access Rule; culturally competent definitions and terminology; and information on preventing and reporting housing discrimination.
