HUD Awards More than 19,000 New Housing Choice Vouchers
In the most expansive allocation of flexible rental assistance in 20 years, HUD announced on Friday the awarding of $214,519,250 in housing choice vouchers. Funding will go to 1,945 public housing authorities, covering nearly every community in the country, some of which will receive their first allocation of new vouchers in decades. Read article
HUD Posts Guidance on Ground Leases and Purchase Options to Establish LIHTC Site Control
HUD has added to its Repositioning FAQs and Handouts page a document providing guidance on when a ground lease should not be executed, as it could trigger violations of a contract with HUD or possible environmental concerns. Read article
HUD Releases Updated Public Housing Agency Disaster Readiness, Response, and Recovery Guidebook
In recognition of National Preparedness Month, HUD has updated its PHA Disaster Readiness, Response, and Recovery Guidebook to assist PHAs in effectively navigating the disaster process. The Michigan State Housing Development Authority has released a plan to contract or rehabilitate more than 75,00 housing units, including affordable rentals and homeownership opportunities. The plan also identifies eight priority areas: equity and racial justice, the housing ecosystem, homelessness, housing stock, older adult housing, rental housing, homeownership, and communication and education.
