HUD requires the delivery of information about federal emergency rental assistance before evicting tenants for nonpayment of rent in HUD-subsidized properties, releases new resources and training for PHAs on a variety of topics, and more.
New resources and training are available on the HUD Exchange to support PHAs and their partners in developing and administering their public housing and voucher programs. These include the “Minimum Rent and Hardship Exemption Policy” video; video interviews with residents and staff about Mainstream vouchers; the “Introduction to Child Welfare” webinar recording; a five-part webinar on improving performance on your PHAS; the “PHA Asset Repositioning Post-Closing How-To” video; and a webinar series on financial management and best practices for HCV. In a Federal Register notice on September 28, HUD announced the extension of NSPIRE to April 30, 2023. The purpose of the NSPIRE pilot is to change the 20-year-old REAC physical inspection system to better reflect the condition of privately owned, HUD-subsidized housing. Read article
In the 2,000th approval through the CDBG Section 108 Guarantee Program, HUD has awarded Springfield, Massachusetts $5 million to support the Main Street Convention District Overlay Zone Fund Project. Funds will go toward the purchase of vacant, abandoned, and foreclosed property in the downtown area, supporting the redevelopment and revitalization of downtown Springfield. Read article
