HUD approved new uses and provided guidance and flexibility for coronavirus relief funds, Fair Market Rents (FMRs) for the Housing Choice Voucher were published, and more.
On Friday, August 14, Secretary Ben Carson announced new flexibilities for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG-CV) program to allow for the best utilization of funds by state and local governments. HUD is also allowing flexibility to use non-CARES Act funds for coronavirus recovery. Read more
The issue will allow governments to use existing federal disaster recovery funds to support low- and moderate-income households for disasters occurring in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 during the coronavirus outbreak. HUD is accepting comments and requests for reevaluations on the FMRs until September 30. A list of areas requesting reevaluations will be posted around October 2. Read more
The apartments will house San Diegans who previously experienced homelessness, with 25 units going to individuals with serious mental illnesses. Each apartment will receive a housing voucher to help cover rent. Read more
Starting September 1, the program will award Phoenix landlords a $500 signing bonus for any HCV Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) contract signed. The bonus will be subsidized with funding from the Federal CARES Act. Read more
Suffolk Public Housing Authorities will use the funds to support their Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) programs to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19. Recipients of the funds include Town of Huntington Housing Authority, Town of Islip Housing Authority, Riverhead Housing Development Corporation, Village of Patchogue CDA, and Town of Babylon.
