HUD changes regulations for notification requirements for nonpayment of rent, publishes a proposed rule that would affect citizenship status regulations and one that would allow work requirements, and updates the online magazine The Edge.
An interim final rule published in the Federal Register restores the regulatory requirements for notifying tenants of termination of a lease due to nonpayment of rent to the pre-2021 framework. The requirement for public housing is 14 days’ notice; for the Section 8 Moderate Rehabilitation program, five working days; and for PBRA and PBV, the timing of the notice must comply with the lease and state law. A proposed rule published in the Federal Register would revise regulations governing assistance to families that include ineligible noncitizen members. Among other changes, the rule would require all family members to have eligible status, require verification of U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status for all participants, and limit prorated assistance to a temporary condition pending verification of all family members’ statuses.
